I recently bought a Lionel Lionchief 2.0+ baby K4 so that I would be able to run a long train on my layout and make use of my O-31 turning loops.  I prefer the scale engines, but wanted to try something smaller.  I model mainly the N&W, and a little C&O and Virginian, so I needed to do some work on the K4.  I chose the tuscan red model with the idea I could stretch the historical truth and pretend it was once a passenger hauler for the N&W. I used a Cricut machine to do the tender lettering and locomotive numbers, and then heavily weathered it as if the once proud passenger engine had been relegated to short line coal hauling in the backwoods for many years.  I'm finding I really like how it looks on the layout and am enjoying being able to navigate the O-31 curves instead of just the main loops and storage yard as I am restricted to doing with my scale engines.

With this being my first go at it, I'm very open to feedback and ideas on how to do the next one better.

Thanks John!  Yes, I felt in some places I over did it, particularly the "soot and grime" under the smoke stack goes too far down on the running boards.  I think maybe a little gray and a touch of brown to lighten the running boards up in that area might help.  While that sounds like more, it's really trying to make it less.  I found it's really easy to go too far without realizing it!
