I purchased a Polar Railroad Geep in March and was very pleased with it.  I put it on the layout assigned a new ID and ran it around for a couple of loops.  All was well and I put back in the box.  This evening I took it with me to run at the D3R meet and it got fussy.  It didn't want to respond, and finally when we did get it moving it didn't not have any diesel sound or crew talk.  One member tried to reset it with legacy, I tried to reset it at home with it's special ID.  It will blow the horn, ring the bell, run the lights and run both directions.  Occasionally it will chirp a bit of diesel sound, but only very briefly.  The cab light is flashing regularly.  Any ideas.  I've been told to send it in.  I don't have a reciept per se, I bought it on ebay and only have the transaction record for proof of purchase.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

If the cab light is flashing in a pattern i.e. 3 or 4 consecutive blinks it is indicating a diagnostic trouble code. There is a list of these codes on the last page of so of your owners manual. If a full reset didn't "fix" it sending it in is your best option. Lionels warranty policy only covers items purchased from an authorized  dealer. There are a few authorized dealers that sell on ebay, if you didn't purchase it from an individual you might still be covered. You can find a list of authorized dealers here http://www.lionel.com/CustomerService/Dealers/

Other than that you can send it to Lionel anyway and they will charge for the repair. Contact Lionel here under "service/repair question" to request a warranty or non-warranty repair http://www.lionel.com/ContactUs/
