So it looks like Ferromex is trying to buy out the Florida East Coast Railway.  Since the Union Pacific owns 26% of it will be interesting to see if the UP tries to buy a route to connect the Union Pacific up to the Florida East Coast Railway so they have a single route from Mexico to Florida.  I am sure Hunter Harrison is probably going to sell off some CSX routes and I am interested to see if the New Orleans to Jacksonville route gets sold off.

This will be interesting to watch.  I don't see the current administration being friendly to a Mexican railroad / investment group taking over an American railroad.

However, if the administration means what is says about not standing in the way of business deals who knows what could happen.

I wonder if this merger makes sense since there is no physical connection between the two railroads.

Since the Union Pacific owns 26% of them I could see them trying to bridge the gap between New Orleans and Florida.  I could see them trying to get trackage rights over CSX's route between there or maybe just buying the CSX route out right since it is not that busy a route for them and I know Hunter Harrison and trying to cut costs.
