Swiss researchers have released futuristic designs for attachable modular aircraft that will allow passengers to board a plane at a railway station and disembark at their destination without ever setting foot in an airport

It actually looks pretty cool

Very George Jestony or 1950's Disney Futuramaish vision.

But...

It moves passenger security responibility to the railroad station.  You just get to do all that fun stuff at the station rather than the airport.

Looks nice and easy in computer simulation form, but there's all that silly mechanical stuff to lift, connect and secure the "train" to the aircraft.  That's all going to add time and delays.

Other than the "cool" factor, I don't see any advantage.

This idea is completely absurd. Passenger modules have to be pressurized and the slightest damage to the structure would endanger not only the passengers but the aircraft and other modules. Exposing a module to the rigor of rail service, to include vibration and fatigue, and then placing the module on an aircraft without a time-consuming engineering inspection is not practicable.

And they'll probably hit flying cars trying to beat them to the airspace...

Yes.  Next somebody will try to tell us that we'll computers that fit on desktops and that we'll have portable phones............

This "flying train" concept is one of those "solutions in search of a problem" like the moving train platform from 2 years ago:
