I've tried using different browsers, even changed the email address away from Yahoo and still I never get notifications of postings after checking "Follow This Topic" ... any idea why not? I used to, then one day it just stopped happening.

Nope, not showing up in spam box either. Also not a blocked site. Just not getting any notifications. One day it just quit. Maybe it's Yahoo.
It works way too for me! Since it is a default, I sometimes forget to click it off and I get a dozen emails real quick. I which we could turn it off generally rather than for each response.
Since it is the default for me, maybe when you check it, you turn it off? Try not checking the box?
when you are on a topic if you see a green check mark that means it's on if not you somehow have it off you can turn it off in your profile if don't want it to be the default.

You have control over whether to automatically follow a topic or not. You can change this in your profile. The DEFAULT could be OFF if you want it that way.
