I picked up a K-line, 18" aluminum, Reading streamlined combine #593. Model number K4681-30593. Traditional combine coaches have about half of the car with 4-6 windows and the remainder of the car has a baggage door. This car has the windows but no baggage door. The area where the baggage door should be is blank.

Did the Reading railroad have such a car (combine)?

Do any of you that model the Reading have such a car?

I can't find anything on the K-line website that has a picture or info on this car.

Thank for any enlightenment!

I think this car was put in the wrong box. I have seen pictures of the reading #593 combine and it is a standard style combine. I believe the car I have is known as a "grill car" because half the car has no windows or baggage door...that would be the area in the car where the lunch counter and grill would be.

I bought it used (Trainz) so it may be boxed wrong.

The Reading had two types of streamlined cars: the stainless steel consist of the CRUSADER and semistreamlined ("blimp") 2000 series cars introduced in 1948 for the WALL STREET (Reading Terminal, Philly - Jersey City Terminal); the KING COAL (Reading Terminal-Shamokin); and the SCHUYLKILL (Reading Terminal-Pottsville).

I agree with the above posts. It's a grill car.

It's a repaint job. Photo looks good at a distance, but up close the maroon looks like it was put on with a paint brush, the decals are cracking off and the aluminum paint is uneven, thick, and wavy. I could go on, but it is definitely not a factory finish.

I do believe it was intended to be a "grill car"...just can't confirm it because of the lack of available K-line information.
