While the first train you see

Will be done properly

With a bevy of MACs

Pulling  all auto racks

The next train through

Might disappoint you

As a varnish lugging K4

Pulls coal “going to war”

Then decades soon pass

As on the same track

An EVO appears

Pulling wood reefers of beer?

That last one is a gift from me

For  the nitpickers in my company

Who will likely take flight

Cause things just aren’t right

So while I strive to detail

These models of scale

As a purist I am doomed to fail

Cause happily I got a third rail.

I like it!

As a boy I started

With tinplated rails

And curves so sharp

I had many corner fails

As a teen I strayed

from my three-railed joys

To ride dirt bikes

And play with older kid toys

As a father my interest

In trains was renewed

When my kids found my old trains

And they ran good as new

Alas, my kids are mere carriers

Of the Railpox gene

But my Railpox infection

Came back really mean

But I was also infected

With the scale variation

But loved three rail as well

Which gives consternation

The rivets I count

My flanges are smaller

But I still run on flat rails

With a profile that's taller

The third rail in the middle

Concerns me some times

But not enough YET

To rip out the lines

The rivet counting I do

Within me only fosters

The need to more carefully

Check loco rosters

The prospect of all 2-rail

Makes me somewhat scoff

As the bulk of my trains

I'd need to sell off

So for now I live

In the de-militarized zone

That the 3RS hard core

Now all call home.

Couldn't resist.
