I had to ask this, based on the great posts I was reading on other threads regarding the future of our hobby.
It should be interesting to hear why someone in the age 18-30 age group purchases model trains.

For me I got hooked on trains through a combination of Thomas the Tank Engine and family ties to railroading. Most people set it aside when school and dating comes into the mix but the hobby brings me so much enjoyment that I have made a point of keeping involved in it though these life events.
Currently I am making my own money through various computer-related jobs and have been buying all the Lionel scale locomotives I drooled over as a lad in the 2000-2008 catalogs.
I also got interested in trains through watching Thomas. Then, my Grandpa bought me a Lionel Train set when I was about 3, and it just sorta took off from there.
Yep, even at age 51, I still love Thomas the Tank Engine!
