Wound up finding one of my Grails from a antique/thrift store.  Wanted to share.  Really in excellent condition and the Missile trail car has both brake wheels and the helicopter and sub are complete, original, with no damage.  Must have been closet or bedroom stored, absolutely no rust on any of the cars or engines.  Clean, not even frame scratches.  All the accessory envelops and even the track are excellent condition.

The motor would not run, even though the e-unit is mint an cycled properly.    Pulled armature and the drive wheels would not rotate.  Everything was very dry with respect to lubrication.  Wheels extremely clean so it did not look like it was used much.  I worked the wheels back and forth with my thumb until they broke free.  I was surprised how they were binded given the condition of the set.  I lubricated bearings and gears and it really freed up nicely.  Cleaned brushes and armature face (minimal), and it ran like a champ!

Just an apron repair required now, and a method to remove some red duct tape from the box!   The original sticker price was $39.95.  Nice 1960 catalog and a local 1968 newspaper included.   G

Thanks guys.  Wish I knew more about the history of the owner.  Girls gift to Dad possibly?

Seriously, I purchased another post war military set a few years ago.  Original gift to dad from 3 daughters.  Only used a few season and then stored away.  Same excellent condition with all the fragile boy toys surviving!

I will work on the Apron tomorrow and will try removing the tape this evening.  G
