You are correct, I will need to fabricate the lift rings, which I'll have to play with to get looking decent.

 

R/R is remove and replace, in my shorthand. The Weaver dynamic brake hatch is just a flat piece, so I'll be grafting a much more detailed Lionel hatch from a donor RS-11.  The Lionel piece already has the afore mentioned lift rings in place.
