Most interesting to hear passenger rail mentioned... as it always is.

Sadly, no restoration of passenger rail to the Lehigh Valley can be justified over the existing rail infrastructure.

Whether to Philadelphia,  NYC or Harrisburg, no restored rail service would be any faster than the existing bus service.

But the central location of the Lehigh Valley makes it prime for freight.  And that's a good thing.

Chuck, thanks for sharing that story.  I love reading that kind of article... It's very inspiring and gives Valley residents lots of hope.  Our family was relocated to the Valley in 1971, when my dad (who passed away this past March) worked for Mack Trucks.  It was an era when the largest employers in the Valley were Mack, Bethlehem Steel, and Air Products.  Very prosperous times for sure.

While the Valley is certainly no stranger to re-inventing itself, this is one of the best articles I've read that gives a renewed glimmer of hope that "significant industry" capable of supporting real jobs may once again have a home in the Valley.  Best news I've heard today.    I realize it won't happen overnight, and there are no guarantees.  But the possibility is very encouraging.  It would bring a smile to my Dad's face.

I agree with all your observations. I just hope that the move to increased freight traffic doesn't get bogged down in the silly discussion of passenger rail. What the Lehigh Valley needs is employment for people who live here, not trains for YUPPIES who ply their trade in Manhattan and leave us with the bill for schools for their kids. As "Rule 292" said, the express buses from the Lehigh Valley get into NY faster than any proposed train would.
