Folks, I know I have been beating the dead (iron) horse lately, but this one really has apparently died.

Parameters:  Track Clean, Rollers/wheels clean, Track wiring connections tight.

Situation:  Engine sat for a few months.  Upon powering the track, lights cam on and sounds came up as normal.  Selected ENG and the loco's number.  Sounds died, no movement.  Moved engine by hand to another place on the track (easier to reach).  Attempted to start again.  No sounds.  Lights come on, but the green class lights blink very rapidly.  Clean the rollers/wheels again.  Attempt again, no difference.  Wrap my hands around the cab to use fingers to check to see if tether is soundly seated.  When I touch the tether, I get a pretty good electric shock.  I see no bare wires.

I have not opened anything up because I don't know what to look for.

Any suggestions (aside from using as boat anchor) appreciated.

Update:  A little while ago, I pulled the 4-6-0 off the track and placed one of my mikes on it to verify the CC is working fine--the mike worked right away.

So, to demonstrate that I really am insane (definition of insane:  repeating the same action expecting a different outcome), I put the ten-wheeler back on and tried again.  Lo! and Behold!  it ran.  Don't ask me why, but I guess insanity has its benefits.

The remaining problem is that it seems to have about three speed steps:  too slow, pretty fast, and rocket.

Nevertheless, I will run the tests suggested above sometime this week and report back.

Thanks for all the support so far!
