A long 4-day weekend to include Veterans Day was a great excuse to visit Boston and see family. Here's some views from the window of Amtrak 161. South Norwalk, Bridgeport, New Haven and the bridge at New London.

The view on the Northeast Corridor from Westerly, RI to Old Lyme, CT. is one of my favorites. There are stretches where the tracks are just a few feet from the open ocean.
Sit on the right side of the train heading up to Boston and the left side of the train heading to NYC. Also, if you sit on the left side of the train heading toward NYC, you get a spectacular view of the long, left curve that leads up to the Hell Gate bridge.
All is particularly beautiful during sunrise/sunset. I frequently take the first Acela down to NYC. It leaves Providence, RI at 5:40am and you arrive at that ocean stretch right at sunrise. It's stunning.
I love looking at the Metro North maintenance shops in New Haven and Stamford. The retro orange/black/white New Haven livery does it for me every time.
Thanks for sharing.

Boy, you do a lot of train travelling & get some great photos.
Looking at that bridge photo reminds me of a fun experience I had on that line one time.
I was going northbound, sitting on the right side (the water side), and the train stopped at the lift bridge. The conductor made an announcement that the bridge was open and they didn't know how long the delay would be. I cursed under my breath at the concept that hundreds of people had to wait on the train while some filthy rich 1-percenters passed through on their sloops.
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that the reason was that a Navy sub was returning from the open water to the base. It was riding high and the conning tower was plainly visible. I had never seen one before and was surprised at how fast it was moving. It seemed like you could almost water ski off the back.
I don't pass over that bridge without thinking about it.
Great pics.

I didn't get photos this time, but here's one from a previous trip some years ago.
I agree, the NY-Boston trip has some great scenic opportunities.
Thanks, all for the kind words.

Me too, Serenska! Here's one that I saw on the way back on November 11 at Old Saybrook.
The New Haven Railroad still rules. Here is a photo of a NH train on the G&O garden railroad. (I am a NH modeler.)
