The basic architecture of the modern Taco Bell that Menards has modeled is the same as many other fast food chains.  I see examples in my area that include Arby's, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, KFC, McDonalds, Panda Express, Wendys, and others.

 How about it Menards ?

I don't get it. With so many excellent choices to pick from why would anyone want one of these architectural blights on the landscape on what would otherwise be a nicely scenic'd layout? These buildings are all ugly, garish boxes. Could it be because one of these companies is paying Menards out of their advertising budget, hmm?

I would much prefer the kind of building that would appear in a mid-'60's town center like a generic stationery store, shoe store, barber shop, drug store, corner candy store, etc. It doesn't need to have a recognizable "name". None of the stores in the center of my old home town had a name anyone not living in the town would know. On my layout, I scrape off whatever sign is on a built-up building I buy and replace it with one I make myself.

I'll pass.

To each their own. Not everybody models in your era just as you don't model in their era.

I actually agree with that. My eye was drawn to the color photos of all the hideously garish buildings of the other posts and didn't pay attention to the topic. Sorry about that. If anyone wants urban/suburban blight on their layout why should I care?

My post was not to endorse an architectural style that is the new trend in fast food buildings.  Like them or not, its the trend, its real, and real is what most of us are shooting for.  My newest MTH SD70ACE will look great passing by a modern fast food store!  Not all of us stick to an era, steam only visits my rails as excursions.

Knowing that manufacturers like to make the most out of tooling I was trying to suggest some offerings for those who model the modern era that could expand on Menards existing basic structure.   I also know that the taco bell is selling well at least here in my corner of the land.

The classic McDonalds was made by MTH already.

I too prefer the older more individual styles of the old KFC, Wendys, Arbys, Taco Bell, and as you read those the image appears in your mind easily. But all are vastly different structures and my point was to run with something more likely to be made.
