I just purchased a Lionel 7-11022 G Gauge Polar Express set, in the original box,  at a garage sale.  I put new batteries in the remote controller and in the tender per the instruction manual.  When I turn on the remote, the red light goes on but nothing works.   Ditto when I press the grey power activation button on the engine.  It is dead!  Anyone have any thoughts about what to do or if it is fixable.  Maybe the owner sold it because it stopped working.  No big deal.  I did not pay much for it.   Thanks in advance for any help.

The most common problem I've seen with these is with the power jack on the loco. The clip in the jack that presses against the outside of the plug from the tender gets slightly bent from young hands pulling to cord on an angle to unplug it. So it no longer makes contact with the plug barrel, and no power to the loco. I've had some, but nowhere near 100%, success using a 'dental pick' to reach in and bend it back. The kind with a double 45deg bend on the end works best if it works at all.
