Thanks for the compliments. This year there was 1 colorful steam locomotive on display at the downtown Amtrak station along with the usual ES44C4 (as in the last 2 years). I am not familiar with steam locomotives & didn’t take many pictures of it. According to yesterday’s tour guide it was replica of a Civil War locomotive & was named Leviathan. It was operational, was making its noise & was moving forward & reverse under its own power at times & also had a burning smell around it unlike the smell of an older diesel locomotive exhaust.
Went back to Galesburg today with my family for more trains. Enjoyed Twin-Cities 2-rail club’s awesome modular DCC layout & an impressive collection of modern locomotives & rolling stock. Got to talk to Mike DeBerg. Bought a 2-rail Atlas Trainman 62’ Flat Car from Caboose Hobbies at the train & toy show after watching 1 on Mike’s layout.
Went to the downtown Amtrak station for some railfanning. Forgot how loud a train horn was until the engineer on a SD40-2 almost disoriented me by blasting the horn while passing right next to me at the station. Saw 3 SD40 remote controlled yard switcher locomotives including a cabless unit in between 2 regular units. Wanted to see the westbound Amtrak California Zephyr but the train was delayed over 30 minutes. So had to leave before I could take some pictures.
