Does anyone know the rationale for relocating the nose door to the engineer's side of the locomotive?
Was this just a manufacturer's thing?
Was there a railroading reason?
Or was this a preference by some Roads? And if so which Roads?

I'm thinking..............If the engine was in a wreck and laying on the engineers side (right side) the crew could exit through the door in the nose more easily. There is no exit door on the brakeman's side (left side).

I believe GE could place the nose door on either side, whichever railroads preferred. MTH's ES44AC 2010 models came with doors on the left side;
Most of GE's wide body doors are on the conductor's side.
EMD units have the doors on the engineer's side, but, there are a few with them on the conductor's side.
Just saw a magazine at the hobby shop showing the doors on the left. Maybe they made some type of equipment change in the short hood end.
