Would make an interesting model.

That's a Climax. But it does give you an idea that the manufacturers haven't even scratched the surface on the number of different steam engines that could be built. Yet we keep seeing the same re-issues year after year.
Unfortunately, the cost of tooling means that if someone like MTH makes a 0-8-8-0 or a 0-10-2("Union"), it's in the Premier series and I'm not paying $1k for a model loco.
The picture above was taken on Atlantic Ave, Boston, in September, 1945.
Here's another photo of the loco.

What's funny is that in Boston they used Climaxes, and in New York City they used Shays.

What was the reason for the large cab?
As for making a model, I would think it would be easy for them to do, just put a cover of the existing design.
Then again, someone could make this out of brass over a climax
I suspect the can was for appearance; it looked better in a city. The NYC El used steamers with such cabins.
Ah, makes sense. Thanks.
I was randomly searching for steam box cabs, hoping for inspiration for a bash on the web, and ran across this thread. Running my RI dockside cab forward, I thought one might make a cool box cab. PRR man proved me right! That Shay ain't to shabby either.
