Genesis item 20-2605-1 the other thread has been locked have no idea why so!

I am back at this engine again basically no matter what track this engine is on it misses the watchdog signal and powers up in conventional.

yet if I push startup it will say engine not found so after that clears I push startup again and it does its thing and after that I can run it horn/bell coupler slack works turn volume up/down and turn smoke on/off its happy!

I can power it off let it sit for a few seconds after shut down and push startup and all is still working.

I have done a factory reset and no help other than changing its engine id address from 7 to 3 have no idea as to why.

at startup the engines sounds are lower as I set to max volume after I push startup the sounds revert back to my original setting. so is the conventional engine sound being lower due too the engine sound volume pot setting?

only time I have issue is when track power is removed for a few seconds and powered back up it again misses watchdog signal.

GGG in other post mentioned that a part may be bad forget what he called it am guessing on the circuit board that deals with the watchdog signal.

hope you chime in again G.

If the power supply inductors are bad it can kill the DCS signal, but I am also concerned about the volume issue.

First do you have a good and fully charged battery?  Without it the resets and memory don't retain latest settings.

Second, when volume reverts to low volume, can you raise to full, or does it stay low except at start up?

Once you have it in DCS and running, do a DCS Signal strength test and see what it is.  If low, and other engines are high in that area of the track your engine has issues.  Could be dirty wheels and pickups, damaged wire, or bad Power Supply component.  I can repair that for you.   G

ggg.....  made my own had 2-1.2 volt recharge batteries so gave it a shot meter says charged at 2.7 volts.

as to volume yes once I hit startup so not in conventional mode I can do anything I want to volume increase decrease lights horn bell quick start all works.

I did a signal test on 8' of track solid 10's.

so guess the other item you mentioned is culprit I think?

is better to send entire engine or just the board?

With the new charged battery is the engine playing shutdown sounds when you turn power off to track?  If so, try the resets again.  See if they stick and engine is improved.

If not try reloading the sound file.  After that, you can just send the board, but the is based on the wiring in the engine all being good.  E-mail is in my profile.  G

GGG .....    I reset engine back to factory settings and then re added engine. I always have to hit startup after that can do anything. Yes it does have engine shutdown sounds not a instant ending of sounds but a normal delayed response.

everything sticks except for when track power is shut off then upon repowering track power engine misses watchdog signal so enters conventional mode and I have to hit startup on remote this is a constant happening.

as to reloading sound file is there a tutorial to follow here on forum or? I just recently learned how to update remote and TIU so have the appropriate cables I think?

do you search on MTH site for this engines product ID# or the type it was built as in

fph 59 and so on?

by the way both TIU and remote are running 4.30 software.

had a noisy fan motor but a spot of oil fixed that man they squeel like a school girl hard on the ears!

Dies it have complete shut down sounds when you turn off track power, not just when you press Shutdown?   yes

I tried it both ways in conventional and command mode engine sounds follow the mth protocol of 6-7 second total shutdown.

GGG... yes I received your email thank you.

I'm still curious as to what reloading sound file would accomplish?

also how does one get downloaded sound file from computer into the engine?

how do you attach engine to tiu?

or do you load sound file into tiu and using remote on layout with engine on track reload it?

I went to mth web site but found no information on the how to do this.

I will gladly do it just to rule out a corrupted sound file and if after that no joy then all points to a very bad part on circuit board.

SF is justa crap shoot and easy enough for you to do it you have done it before.

What you do is set up a test track near a computer, connect TIU to the computer (USB or RS232), load MTH program on your computer.  Down load the sound file for your model, then follow the directions to load the SF into your engine via the program.

Barry's book has the details.   G

GGG.... I searched online again and came across Eric Siegals tutorial on loading sound files.

but apparently the latest loader has done away with saving the old sound set but I did load the sound set from mth.

and your right a crap shoot and was all for naught as after new sound file same crap new day so its the circuit board by a nose LOL.

its the only thing left as I cannot find a bare wire- pinched cut omitted anywhere so only logical choice left.
