The prototype 40010 railcar was used to transport high voltage generators for power plants. The car was originally built for General Electric by NORCA Machinery Corp. in May of 1971. The original GEX 40010 was a 20 axle railcar that had a load limit of 1 million pounds. This twenty axle Schnabel car is now owned by Contractors Cargo Company, and managed by HLI Rail & Rigging. The prototype has recently completed a $1,000,000 refurbishment.
