GG 042 turnout with DZ 1000

I added a DZ 1000 to a previously manual GG 042 turnout. The points do not seem to want to completely move in either direction. They will move well if one uses fingers so it appears the issue is the connection between the switch machine (which does work just fine) and the switch. I don't see any replacements connectors on the Z Stuff web page. Has anyone experienced this issue? Can I just use another thin piece of metal properly formed that may have a bit more spring tension?
