This is If Im not mistaken, an early KTM model,(on the bay at the moment) the body is fabricated brass as opposed to stamped brass. The lettering and strips are raised, if you look carefully. Its interesting to me since Im building a fabricated body of my own in 17/64 scale. Feel free to chime in with any GG1 projects you have or related locos. Just for fun!! You should know Martin Ackroyd. He has done this. Are you annealing the brass when you form the compound curves?
it is possible that the brass cast GG1s were close to 17/64.
Hi Bob I did think of annealing the brass but decided not to, the curves are tricky, and annealed would would make it easer. I thought another approach might be to form dental wax over the wood pattern and build it up like a sculpture and then use ceramic shell to cast the final model or body. Im not familiar with Martin Ackroyed but Id love to see what he has done ! Stephen (cTr...Choose the Right) & ( There's power in Service )
Either way, what you are doing is fine as art and as model building. This is not the easiest car body to build. Some day I shall attempt an Erie-Built in brass - I will anneal and hammer the upper nose piece. I have successfully hammered out aircraft cowlings, and found it quite rewarding.
