Here is a good resource for building a prototypical consist....
Thanks, got that email too. Spent an hour looking for any example of a 'dome sleeper' for the Builder. Partial ad from Scott:
GREAT NORTHERN - EMPIRE BUILDER
You've waited long enough. Now's your chance to own the only full scale, Accurate, O Scale Model of the "1956 Empire Builder". These Aluminum and Brass constructed cars boast fully detailed interiors with 6 figures / car, overhead "Anti Flicker" LED lighting, All Axles with Ball Bearing Journals.
8 CAR SET INCLUDES:
| CARS AVAILABLE SEPARATELY:
|
Also Available: GN & SF "Great Dome Lounge Cars, Full Length Dome Lounge Car in Brass Yes, we know the fluting is different for each of these, so that's why they will be made in brass.
Did you miss the GN F7s? We will consider a rerun if we get enough orders. Reserve them here too.
Big sky blue? *runs for cover*

Big Sky Blue? I doubt if Scott could even give them away.

That "Big Sky Blue" scheme had to be the stupidest looking passenger train I have ever seen! Yes, I was there for the very first run of the board of directors train too, and even THAT looked stupid.
I understand that every color has a place, but it's to what degree. That quantity of that particular shade of blue on such a thing is disturbing.
Is the full length dome car the same “Great Dome” car that is now used on some Amtrak train in the Fall? Would that be the Dome Coach, Dome Lounge or the Dome Sleeper?
Thanks,
Naveen Rajan

I couldn't say if they're the same, but this is what Scott intends to offer, also in a Santa Fe.
The original Great Northern paint scheme is so much classier than the blue paint
That blue paint must have been on sale. It's fugly.

Yes, the Great Dome (AMTK 10031) is an ex-GN big dome.
The Norfolk Southern big dome is an ex-ATSF car....
Offering that big dome both ways opens up some possibilities... whether or not Scott wants to open up the paint scheme options or not is another story.
Now... back to the BSB, I don't want a full train of it. Since my interest this set lies in obtaining cars that would have been forwarded to Amtrak, I wouldn't mind picking up a BSB car or two, if the add on cars were available that way. Same thing for BN hockey stick.
Can anyone explain how one can achieve this train (Summer 1956 consist) ordering from Scott's menu? Seems that a few courses are missing to be called complete. There also appears that Scott has added ingredients not called for in the recipe.

Just skip the BSB and go to GN hockey stick:
I see on the Web site a price per car for the Pullmans, and a price per 4-car set for the P70 cars. What could one expect to pay for the 8-car set?
History suggests 2 K plus for an eight pack.
Jon,
Thank you very much!
Jon,
Thank you!
I bet it would be cheaper to repaint to Big Sky than for the manufacturer to set up for it, given its limited appeal. If by hockeystick, you mean the Burlington Northern white and green, Iwould guess appeal is even more limited.
That said, I cannot seem to get enough of the Empire Builder colors. One day I will capture the K-Line "Sun River" car.
No thank you...
I will want this for sure, but I need some more details:
1. What are the prices?
2. What sleeper configurations will be offered? I would like to see the Pass, River and Glacier series.
3. Any cars lettered for CB&Q or SP&S ownership?
4. What about the baggage-dormitory car?
By the way, GN did NOT have dome sleepers. Perhaps Scott is confusing GN with NP, which did.
All of the "regular" domes on GN were coaches. The full-length "Great Dome" provided dome seats and lounge service for the sleeping car passengers.
Look at that consist, it's beautiful. And I also like the goat.....
