I have the MTH Boxcab that is disintegrating due to zinc pest.  I missed the deadline to sign up for the MTH replacement shell, so it currently just turning to dust in the box.

Has anyone tried putting a GGD P5 Boxcab body on this MTH frame?  I know I will lose some functions, but it will be MUed behind a MTH P5 Modified as was done by the Pennsy.

Any thoughts on this would be great.

Well, then in my opinion, anytime you’re swapping die cast shells for brass, ….that is an upgrade, …..the sheet brass, the shells are constructed from would be far more representative of what the real locomotive’s cab walls would be made of,…the die cast shells are so very thick, they actually represent the walls of a tank turret, rather than a locomotive…….

What you’re asking for Ron, has become our new frontier in 3 rail model railroading!…..some of us don’t wait for a particular model to be made, …..we just build it ourselves,……in our world, there’s nothing nicer then a fine scale model up top, but utilizing the rugged construction of an earlier MTH or Lionel chassis,….it’s truly the best of both worlds,……this model below could arguably be the finest J1e Hudson to grace 3 rails,…..
