This shot is not in the new OGR magazine about the ghost town on my layout but I like it. On to the next section. It will feature three copper mines and be serviced by the small electric line. Don

Love little details like this. You can have a whole story behind what went on in the town, who lived there, why it fell on bad times, etc. Very cool. Can I ask how did you create your rock structures? Is the rock cut out of foam? Looking forward to reading the article tonight! Congrats.
Thanks Chessie, no foam was used. I have a very fast and new way to build mountains. I'm working on a piece for OGR now. The part you see was made with large rock molds. This section is almost six feet high and goes about a foot from the floor. The next section will be a little higher and go all the way to the floor. Don
Honestly the way you make your rock is just fantastic!
I think a picture of a section from your layout was in a recent issue of OGR. Really made me take notice.
Don, I'm looking forward to seeing your new layout progress in the upcoming issue of OGR. I loved your previous layout and sad that it is no longer. The video you produced, "Greatest Lionel / K-line / MTH 3 rail toy train layout", still ranks as one of my favorites. No doubt your latest effort will be no less spectacular.
Excellent Job love the photos in article!!!!Its the dirt and grime that make it for me!

Do you Modelers have your layout on You Tube, and if so what is your You Tube name?
Modeling at it's best.
First class, Don. Both the modeling and photography.

I have a couple of my old layout. This layout is being build complete in sections so only about 12 ft run. No video of that yet. Here's one of my old layout. I'll post the other if your interested. Please watch in HD.Don
Don, Looking good. looking forward to seeing the new layout.
Very impressive Don. I look forward to reading the article in OGR, and hope to get the details on how you built those mountains.
Bob
This is STILL one of my favorite train videos Don - Wonderful!
Q- Did you change the rain effect in the beginning? Seems I remember it coming straight down and the scenes had an over all wet look?
Rain is the same Sam. After I shot the video I did a OGR piece and "painted" with a wide brush, water on the street. I think your thinking of those shots. I wish I would have done it in the video. Next time. Thanks Don
I liked the article bu frankly the most impressive photo is the one you posted at the beginning.
However you make the rocks, please share it soon!
Thanks Lee, the problem with that shot for the article was there was lots of trains and little of the town. The piece was about the Ghost Town not the railroad. As a shot I like it also but it didn't work with the subject. Don
Gorgeous scenery!

Well, its a great shot regardless. As to the trains, not the ghost town, I understand. On the other hand, have you thought about an article on mining trains - at least your mining trains. They are a "sub-speciality" that you seem to have down pat, and an article about not just the type of loco and all but the cars that are appropriate, the weathering, tracks (let's face it, the catenary for that line is, uhh, rather basic construction - one pole not an H over the track, etc. Probably very realistic, too. I imagine while they were all quite basic economical systems, the rails, etc., had to be heavy duty (heavy ore, etc.). There is a lot there to model and get right (or wrong). Actually - the more more I think of it the more I would love an article on mining trains.
Nice job ! keep it going!
I think don's catenary is based on what the milwaukee used.
Aloha Don
congrats on the article and until now never saw your old layout video. Cant wait for the new layout to be filmed!!
Lee, a article on the mining line is coming. Yes, the overhead is very simple and like Forrest said, much the same as the Milwaukee Road. Cedar poles and simple wiring. My thought on the short line is most if not all equipment is second hand. One of the electric locos is from somewhere in Central or South America. When the road bought it, all the controls were in Spanish. I don't want to give much more than that away on the story, but I think you will enjoy it. Don
