Here's another thumbs up for super glue.  I have added classification lights to several engines using brass detail lamps and jeweled lenses from P&D Hobby.

I place a very small drop of super glue in the brass lamp then set the jewels in place with a pair of tweezers.  Haven't had a single issue with a "lense" popping out.

Caution: too large of a drop of super glue will cause it to flow out of the lamp opening and onto the surface of the jewels.  Do this and you'll have to scrape some glue residue off later.  Yes, I learned this the hard way!

I tend to experiment. I don't use the same product twice for many jobs, just to test the waters.

I've replaced a few, with various glues, but only have had one of my own come loose, except for rubber cement and white glue when I was young, that one was super glued.

I still use it, and the gel form does close gaps better, but I'm always afraid of the nasty whiteness it can cause.

Especially important with Superglue; don't forget to do a pre-glue test fitting in the socket!

I like to match the jewel cuts too, by twisting to align them. Gotta act fast!....

My personal fav. is epoxies for that reason.

Testors Canopy cement I haven't used on jewels yet, but dries very clear. You could round off the jewel cut to a lens if you choose. I suspect its hold to be weaker except maybe that being very clear, it would be easy to encapsulate that jewel, evenly, thinly, to retain the jewel cut.
