Here's another comparison I haven't seen posted before. There is definitely a bit more of a disparity with this one due to each manufacturer's different approach to simulating the stainless steel finish of the actual train. Where Lionel simply painted their train silver, GGD actually plated their train in nickel. Compared to the Lionel train the GGD train almost has a gold tint to it, and the cars actually sit a little higher than they should as evidenced by the corrugations on the GGD cars sitting higher than the corrugations on the Lionel tender. Another owner of this set has informed me that removing the plastic bolsters underneath the truck plates will lower the cars to perfect height.

Other than this the cars are beautiful and again probably the best option on the 3-Rail market. For a pure train the matching 3rd Rail ESE Hudson is the only option. However they will also look fantastic (and still prototypical) with a Lionel Niagara since there's no streamlining to match there. My Lionel model will stay with K-Line's ESE cars, which are a much closer match.

Very pretty Nick.  I well remember when Williams first started introducing the scale brass steamers (by Samhongsa) in the early 1990s. They brought out the GS4, the Niagara, Cab Forward, PRR Duplex, Mikado, and a Dreyfus among some others that escape me now. When Jerry Williams went through his shenanigans with blowing out his inventory, Weaver took over the steamers being built by Samhongsa. One of their first new pieces was an uncataloged Empire State Hudson. It was beauty.

They also brought out the Leigh Valley and John Wilkes Booth streamlined steamers and the Santa Fe Blue Goose. What an amazing time it was!

I did just remember a way to cheat and make the engine work a lot better with the cars. Run the train as what I like to call "Post-Publicity". Once all the ceremonies and introductions were done the streamlining quickly started coming apart for ease of maintenance and the huge PT tenders added. Lionel's model allows for this with removable firebox skirting and optional PT tender.

Didn't you pick up the separate sale PT tender? That was made to go with this engine.
