The Golden Gate Railroad Museum is closing. The agreement with Niles Canyon RR Museum has ended and the GGRM must move with their beautiful Southern Pacific 2472 steam engine and all their cars. I spent many years filming the 2472 in the wonderful Niles Canyon. This is a real shame. There is some hope for a new home. Will let you know if it works out. Don

That is a shame. I can't believe they could not reach an agreement to run that beautiful engine. Hope they find a new home.
It's a shame but not like it's a sudden surprise to them. The decision to terminate the agreement happened early this year: http://www.atrrm.org/blog/2015...eum-to-move-in-2016/

best of luck to them. beautiful locomotive.
Love the pacific class engines. IMO one of the vest looking engines ever made. Don't really care for the looks of Vanderbuilt tenders though.

Uh-oh. I hope the new location works out so that the engine can still be safely stored and maybe (oh, I hope) have access to the main track of the former SP. If I remember correctly, this engine made a main line trip some years ago, and it was highly praised for its performance. This engine deserves to be run faster than 20 MPH.
It'd be nice if it came to the Arizona Railway Museum, then I could finally be able to work on a living 1:1 steamer. Closest I've come is a quarter scale Atlantic.
