A train in the Netherlands ran through the bumper at the end of the line. A sculpture at the end caught the car and probably saved the motorman's life.

Yikes!
It just goes to show that good luck will get you by, when skill won't.
Not exactly your usual Fish & Chips but still a whale of a story just the same...!
Now that’s one whale of a tale...
Now this is something you don't see every day. If been going little too fast or slow, result could have been different or tragic. Wonder what motorman said to dispatcher about over running the stop???

oops sorry couldn't get OP picture to open, so thought I would post my copy in case it was different.
Now, that's a fluke.
Looks like that incident at Los Angeles Union where a Warbonnet painted cab unit ran past the end of track and half of it was in the air!
Ahhh....you guys beat me to posting this story. I still challenge Ben to top this one! But also safely! I kinda wish they left the train up there for evermore...the two incongruous forms seem to compliment one another..
Not to be outdone, Old Heads possibly remember when the Pennsy put GG1 4876 "on display" in the basement of the Washington D.C. station, January 15, 1953 at 8:38 AM. The train was the Federal Express. Read the story on Wikepedia. The G was rebuilt and survives to this day no less!
The Guardian Angles were working their wings off, as there were no deaths, only 43 injuries on that fateful morning.
I recall going to Washington Union Terminal that evening to see the wreck. Couldn't see much due to the barriers that had been put in place around it. The GG1 was left there for a few days afterwards and was later painted tuscan when it was repaired.
Coming back to Baltimore we were driving along route 1 around Laurel alongside the B&O and a northbound passenger train went by pulled by a Pacific.
