I inquired about more ore cars some time ago... And was told we'd probably see them during late 2014 -- although unlikely we'll see them at $10/car!

So all this talk in the other thread about RMT being out-of-business was very premature indeed.    Why do folks start these kinds of rumors that have no basis in reality?  Too much time on their hands, I guess.

I agree David, but it would be nice if Walter would keep in-touch on the forum just keeping us updated.  I believe it would eliminate all the rumors and such.  Keeping in-touch with the forum and customers is called good communication.  Nothing wrong with that.  I'm also glad to hear the good news about RMT.

Steve, Lady and Tex

I suspect Walter was waiting on some trigger point to make the final decision.

It would seem that has finally happened.

That said, I too, am happy to hear he is staying in business.

I have quite a few of his products and will be wanting more, despite the fact I know they are not going to hold the blowout prices.

That's good to hear that he's still engaged in the business.

Having said that, I do agree with some other comments that keeping your established and potential customer base informed, even it it's just a simple "we're still around, updates to be posted later" statement on his website or here.

In the consumer market, especially low-volume, niche markets such as our hobby, no news does not automatically equate to good news.  Keeping your customers guessing can lead up to the kiss of death if you keep it up too long.  Silence isn't always golden.

Glad to hear RMT and Walter will still be around. I bought several RMT locos, I am very satisfied with them all, no problems what so ever.

Maybe Walter was using this down time in his business to get away from the hobby, the Forums and such, and relax a bit until he has new product to offer.

I would certainly understand, if that's the case.

Again, like I said in the other thread, he did tell us at the end of last year that he wasn't going away.  Would you rather he spend his time working on paying his bills and getting a product to market, or posting on the forums?  I'd rather him working and hearing nothing.

That was months ago.   So are you suggesting that the time that it would take to provide an update on RMT's situation would be so excessive that he would not be able to pay his bills and getting a product to market?  how long did it take you to post your reply?  A whole week?  30 days?

How well did stealth advertising work for Novell when Microsoft was just starting to enter the server market?

The point is, running a successful business means you maintain a presence; that includes reaching out and just reminding the hobbyists that you're still there.  Especially important during perceived dry spells and the recent aftermath of the Aristo-Craft dissolution.  I wish him all the best, but he's not running a word-of-mouth type of business, so months of relative silence isn't going to help him in the long run, I suspect.
