A friend knowing we are from east coast, asked what good O gauge hobby stores would be in Pennsauken/Cherry Hill NJ, Philadelphia and Dover Delaware area to visit over Christmas trip East?  Won't have a lot of free time, so wanted to hit "the good stuff" rather than the generic "little O this, lots of HO/N/rockets/auto kits that" stores.

Suggestions to pass along?

Nicholas Smith is one of the last great toy and train stores left in the world. Downstairs are toys, trains, die-cast, models, games, dolls, really over-whelming. Upstairs is all trains, all gauges. The history of Nicholas Smith trains goes back to early 20th century, the first or one of the first Lionel dealers. The real Nicholas Smith passed away in 1993. The original store was in Phila., new owner new store is in western suburbs of Philly.

Undoubtedly Nicholas Smith is by far the largest Philly area train dealer stocking the greatest and varied o gauge inventory of both new and pre-owned locos, rolling stock and accessories representing all the major manufacturers.  Grzyboskie's is somewhat of a hike from Philly while Joe's Train Station is much closer as it's off I95 about 7 or 8 miles west on Rt. 132 in Feasterville area of Lower Bucks County and also about 4 miles west on 132 from the Philadelphia exit of the PA turnpike (and only a couple miles from the greater northeast section of Philadelphia.)

Trains and Things is nice but with much less stock than Nicholas Smith and slightly less than JHoe's Train Station.

And, if you and your friend have been looking for something, ask Joey for it at Nicholas Smith. They have lots of stuff, some of it not even displayed.

They are my go-to dealer.

(You may want to fuel-up first with a cheesesteak sandwich and a milkshake at the adjacent Thunderbird Diner. I do.   )

Jim, especially for pre-owned items, the majority of them are warehoused rather than displayed in the store..

Oh gosh... Nicholas Smith Trains is a must-see for anyone visiting that part of South Jersey or the Philly area in general.  It's literally a 1/4 mile or so off the southern portion of the Blue Route (Rt 476).  Get off Rt 476 at the Rt 3 (aka West Chester Pike) interchange in Broomall, PA, which is just minutes north of I-95.  You can practically walk to the store from the Rt 476 and Rt 3 interchange.

I would have to second these. The drive time of 35 min. from Pennsauken/Cherry Hill is interstate driving to Nicholas Smith.

Delaware is devoid of any historical stores above the canal, so Just Trains is a short distance from I-95\RT-1\RT-40 going to or from Dover. They are on the way to building some history. By the way, Arttista Accessories is not to far away.
