I understand there is a gourmet restaurant/cafeteria located near the Red Hall, I believe it is called The House of Tomain. Has anyone experienced this feast for the senses? A friend went there once but I haven't seen him since in order to get a report regarding the food!
I’ll bet you mean The House of PTOMAINE spelled as in "Ptomaine Poisoning"!

I am looking forward to dinning at the Hillside Cafe again. I had been meeting friends there since the mid nineties and did not think it would be rebuilt after their devastating fire in 2012. The family has built a new building and they opened their doors in December. It is a great place to meet because they have wonderful steaks as well as a very balanced menu so there is something there for all the different tastes.
It is about a 15 to 20 minute drive from the meet just off Exit 35 on !-83.
For our group, eating at the HillSide Cafe had become a part of the "York" experience and we are hoping to re-establish that tradition.

I have been to the new Hillside twice both times coming home from the Scale show. Fist time was a Sat. over an hour wait at 5:30.. Last Sun, No wait.at 4:00. They do not take reservations any longer. Food was a lot better than before the fire.
Does anyone know the name of the large German restaurant on rt.30 between York and Gettysburg? If you do , how is it?

I ate at that German restaurant once, SEVERAL years ago, and was underwhelmed...
think I had Wienerschnitzel, which is all that looked interesting on the menu, and
that is a problem I have had with so called German restaurants in this country. Have
had good food in Germany. Seems like every one here has that and little else. Not
sure that makes it "German". I do want to think somebody on another thread, or maybe this one?, who mentioned Dienner's, a buffet just east of Lancaster on 30
(Soudersburg?). I had breakfast there one day, and went back another for the evening
meal. These buffets are not for health nuts or people with medical advice about
shoveling in the groceries. I will try to get back to Dienner's again.
