Hi Everyone,

It has been great seeing all of the recent GoPro videos on the forum the past few weeks.

Thought I would continue the trend with a quick ride around the outer loop of my carpet empire!

Please ensure to select 1080p for optimal viewing quality.

I hope you all enjoy!!

Michael

Hey Jon,

Very observant, I'm surprised I haven't gotten more questions on it.  As this is a temporary layout, I haven't wired the signals to prototypically reflect cleared/occupied blocks.  I only have them wired for effect at this stage of the game.  Once I am able to construct a permanent layout, I'll wire them properly for prototypical operation.

Appreciate the comments.  There is still some stuff I'd like to add, but overall I'm very happy with the design.

Hahah, thanks a lot.  I am a big fan of UP (obviously).

Ha, you'd be surprised.  I cannot stand the amount of dust that accumulates on the trains.  I typically keep my engines covered with either an old wash cloth or some paper towels....it helps mitigate the amount of dust build-up.

Yes, pelago, they are not cheap for a toy but compared to HD camcorders just a few years ago, they are a good deal.

The current GoPros range from about $130 to $500.

I guess their popularity stems from their portability.

Echoing TJ's comments, they are small and versatile cameras that can pretty much be placed anywhere you so choose to capture a video.

They are quite the bang for your buck.

Not going to be a good day for the stock though....as well as my call options.

The car/camera you pushed in front of the locomotive?

The boom you mentioned for the camera?

What model GoPro you used?

And now it starts.

Rick,

Thanks for your comments, I am glad you enjoyed the video.

Nothing all that fancy in my GoPro set-up.  All I did was remove a container on my MTH Norfolk Southern Gunderson Stacks and placed the camera on top of the bottom containers (you can see them in the video).   The car is simply towed behind the Big Boy: again a very simple and effective set-up.

I thought about creating a custom jig, but honestly, the camera was both secure and sturdy riding on the car...so felt that to be a waste of time.

Here is the tri-pod I use for my GoPro:

I have the GoPro Hero 3 White Edition.  I've heard the Hero4 is even better in terms of quality and versatility.

Best,

Michael

Thanks, Art.

It depends what GoPro you get.  I personally love the fish-eye effect, but everyone's tastes are different.  Since I have the GoPro Hero 3 white, it only shoots in the wide FOV (which I believe is 170 degrees).  I typically shoot in 1080p for optimal quality.
