I have a lionel csx diesel freight set with the GP-38 and some cars to go with it. Now back then when I was running it it was working flawlessly, but now, when I'm trying to run it, there are no sounds YES THE SWITCH UNDER THE LOCOMOTIVE IS ON but I don't know why the sound just quit, any idea why? Thanks happy holidays everybody

have you tried the volume up on the cab-1 remote or are you strictly a conventional runner?
as you didn't say if using in command mode or not so I answered as if you were using the tmcc cab-1 system.

Thanks for the reply! It's a starter set with a track and transformer. I am using the CW-80
I'd also consider pulling the shell off and checking for any loose wires.
Thanks! Yeah I just checked and all all the wires were in place.
okay a starter set so is it strictly a low end set or does it have the tmcc\legacy sound boards? can you provide a item number would be like 6-10035 as an example on the side of the box this will help us help you much better.
is your train set item# 6-30153?
if this is the one you have there is a small screw in same area where swtches for sound are and it is used to raise or lower the volume level try turning it I think clockwise as far as ir will go see if sounds are back just a thought as sometimes its just a simple thing that fixes them.
let us know if that helped. do you have another engine to try just so we can rule out a transformer button gone bad.

If it the starter set style the sounds boards are known to go bad and have to be replaced.
The item number is 6-30153 I've had it for about a year.
