GP-9 made odd noise then smelled smoke

Could be the audio amp fried, based on static sound prior to failure.  This can be repaired at the component level.  Engine should be checked out to make sure wire or speaker damage did not cause this.  I would not repower until check via tech.  If it is shorted, you can cause more damage.  G

Thanks I was thinking something along those lines.  Not sure if i want to repair it or just make it a dummy.  I only paid $125 for engine new and the repairs will be more than that I'm sure.

oops!

So what was it?  I was guessing a fried board.  

This model has the volume control very close to one of the post.  The blue (DC PCB Ground) wire got caught and pinched to the chassis.  This blew the processor and power supply board.  I was able to restore the power supply, but it need a new processor board.

Getting AC (chassis) on either the blue, or gray DC wires is very harmful to the boards.

Tach reader, smoke fan, volume control and LED marker/beacon wires.  G
