I have an MTH GP-9 3V unit.  It has been running fine with no problems today when I applied power to the track it started to make an odd noise, kind of like static on a radio, and then I smelled smoke.  The only thing on the track with it was a search light car, bulbs were lite and car was on track completely.  I'm assuming that for some reason the board fried.  Anyone ever had this happen and/or have an idea?  I pushed the searchlight car around and it was fine, ran another engine around without an issue.

Thanks

This model has the volume control very close to one of the post.  The blue (DC PCB Ground) wire got caught and pinched to the chassis.  This blew the processor and power supply board.  I was able to restore the power supply, but it need a new processor board.

Getting AC (chassis) on either the blue, or gray DC wires is very harmful to the boards.

Tach reader, smoke fan, volume control and LED marker/beacon wires.  G
