Also be sure to check out Z-Stuff Train Signals. Good thing is they have built in sensors so no need for a isolated track. The crossing gates also come with a seperate sensor as well so that the train can be detected before the actual signal sensor.
I like the Custom Signals, what did you use to control them?

14 volts probably would not hurt it but if you want to reduce voltage,use diodes or bridge rectifiers,shown here

Problem solved Terry with Custom Signals told me that the GCF -1 will take 6 -18 volts AC or DC
