Graffiti Cars

Im no target despite what others may say. It was and still is a simple inquiry about something I see. If I may have ****ed off a few, oh well It wasn't my intention. I don't like to go around and kick the hornet's nest-but next time Ill bring the wasp spray!

  You have given us a chance to vent on a subject that some folks feel a passion for, and that is not a bad thing really. At least we know we listen to each other .

It is a great topic for discussion, and brought a lot of passionate replies. We had this same discussion on another forum when someone suggested the possibility of putting some graffiti on one of our club cars. Thanks for posting.

"Art" to some; VANDALISM to me!  

Yeah, I am "OLD SCHOOL" and proud of it! 

The term "urban scourge" describes it well - its relation to gangs makes it more abominable! 

I personally don't like it on my cars or on the real railroad cars.  I did buy a couple of MTH 50' high cube boxcars that were weathered and had some graffiti on them.  They were priced low enough that I couldn't pass them up.

"Cool", to you, as long as it's not on your personal/corporate property/possessions.

I highly suspect you wouldn't think it so "cool" if you arose in the morning to find your auto covered with "art and expression" by an individual that merely has a need to "express themselves" via so-called "artwork" on YOUR property/possession(s).

THAT'S part of the issue I have with a "permissive/admiring" attitude toward vandalism. (Which is what "graffiti" is, regardless of its "PC" term). 

Namely: Vandalism is just fine and dandy as long as it's not on YOUR property/possession. However, that's the point, the railroad cars running about the rails are not just there for kicks n' giggles... they are PRIVATE PROPERTY/POSSESSIONS and as has been said, it costs the owners SUBSTANTIAL dollars to repaint cars and re-stencil them.

I haven't a clue how members of our society have gotten to the point that overt vandalism has become acceptable as "art and expression", etc.  Like I said, I'll bet those that feel it's "art and expression", even "cool", wouldn't share that feeling if it happened to THEIR property and THEY were stuck with the expense of repainting and such.

I think it has to do with fear of reprisal from gangs. The local police say that much of the graffiti contains gang messages.

Went for a walk early this morning, and saw new graffiti on a chipped up white divider wall near a newly emptied empty storefront in the "dead corner" of the mall, where none existed 3 days ago. Its in big gold letters, pretty. As I walked, and the stores wall on my left disappeared, the letters revealed themselves  in reverse order !YRREM SAMTSIRHC 

Great, more mixed graffiti feelings . Screw it! Its Christmas, Ill chose forgiveness!.  (this is not a joke, its really there)
