Its tough to find good info on this. How many platforms and tracks have been taken out of service from the NYC glory days? What about the storage/yard tracks....express tracks...and the turning loops? Are most of all the original platforms still in use? Are there pics anywhere of the turning loops? Real pics on the track...not sketches.

None of the platforms are out of service Metro North runs a gaggle of commuter trains through there They are building a third level to allow LIRR trains to enter. The only out of service track is 61 and 62 where the famed baggage car sits below the Waldorf
So its pretty much a carbon copy of the NYC days...but a few tracks are just storage and the place is probably a lot cleaner now?
What is the Madison Ave Yard they speak of? Its a Metro North holding yard and is being built over the the LIRR project. But I can locate a pic anywhere of it?
Are the turn/loop tracks under the concourse ever used?

Here is a pic of the track plan The platform under the Waldorf Astoria is the one out of service It is the one by itself by track 61
While reading this thread, I seemed to recall that one track had been eliminated for the North End Access project. (see link) But according to the story, the access walkways are built along pre-existing platform routes, and no tracks were harmed during the project. Still, it's a remarkable engineering feat.
So I gather the upper loop is still used?
