How much???
$279. you have to be an LRRC member to order ($20 to join).
I got excited for a moment as well, but read the dimensions. This appears to only be a building front that has been scaled down to work on most traditional size layout. That all being said it still looks cool, but can't hold a candle to the model released a few years back.
It's not just a front, it is a three dimensional illuminated structure. The dimensions listed in the illustration are incorrect, i.e 5x6x9". In the text they are 15" x 6 x 9" high, which makes much more sense.
In my 9 by 9 room the original would have never worked. However this new one may fit.

"they are 15" x 6 x 9" high, which makes much more sense."
actually, 15 1/4" x 6 1/8" x 9". every little bit helps!
thanks you for posting the information.
I joined and pre ordered it.

We must have been posting at the same time...

One of the best LRRC perks yet IMO. And just the right size and price..made in USA too.
Since our modest layout is an homage to all the things we love, New Yawk City has to be a part of it. This GCT will give me the impetus to add that 4x4 extension in the corner. I'm in for one.
Is this scale sized? Would this piece look silly and or to small on a hi-rail layout, I do not have my scale ruler handy as I am at work. Do you make the elevated platform that goes with this for sale too?
The building is a highly and beautifully detailed compressed version of the terminal. There is one on display at the NYC Transit museum layout in the real terminal (albeit has a custom base representing the street level AND a completely not to scale but very nicely done Met Life/ne Pan AM building behind it).
This is not my photo but one I found on Google:

"scale model" would be roughly 6'x6'x3' and that would just be the "main" building with no platforms/tracks.
Available to order tomorrow on line on our web site
Will the price be better at the dealer level or is the price shown the price? Thanks, BigRail
I believe this is a very good idea. If it comes close in detail to the previous release, it should be a winner for those who did not have the required space before but wanted one of these beautiful models.
This terminal is so well known that visitors to my layout who are not necessarily train savvy immediately recognize it. Good move for Lionel, the LCCA, and TW Design.

But, is not that the original larger model?

Yes, the model in that picture was the very first Grand Central Station Roger designed for Lionel's Holiday Layout which Lionel puts on display inside the New York Transit Museum every Holiday Season since 2005
Geez time zips by when you're enjoying life!!!
TW Design/TrainWorx has been the Official Layout Builder for Lionel since 2001

Yep Very True Mike W. thanks for you for the reply... I meant to say but didnt since I type many answers on my IPhone--- the orginal "larger size" but that would cost $2000 not $200.
Looks good to me. I just became a LRRC member and also ordered the terminal. I have fond memories working in NY during the 70's. Grand Central Station looks even nicier today!
But, the new size still seems too small for O gauge...would it not be better for HO or maybe as a "distant" object in "O"?
It is almost exactly the same footprint as the MTH station it will be replacing on my layout. I may elevate it a little to expose as much detail as possible.
I ordered mine as soon as I received the email. I love all things TrainWorx and this one I can afford and it'll fit. I wonder how they'll assign the sequence numbers..........FIFO?
Also, anyone who ordered.....any idea how the $50 store credit will be distributed?
Do mean MTH?
Also, which MTH station?
Great looking building. Great dimensions also. I don't have a spot now but I want to get it and find a place as time goes by. I am a memember already. I tried to pre-order on my iPad but it just wouldn't take the order. No biggie, I'll do it on my laptop later. Definetly looking forward to seeing it live. I may have to add a NYC section to my layout just for this. Never thought I would build a layout area just to use a structure. Layout plans can change in an instant.
"Do mean MTH?"
yeah, was posting from my iPhone in doctors office as they called me in.
Got mine ordered and will use it until TW releases their KC Union Station.
Cannot wait to put this on my Christmas layout. This is also the best excuse to get that NYC subway set I have had my eye on for years. Going to be the showpiece on everyone's layout. Can't wait to see the pictures once everyone gets theirs.
Lionel PW style assecories are too large next to the trains as well...but its part of the Lionel charm.

Which NYC Subway are you looking at? I also have plans to acquire one. Don't know which one. Would like to stick with MTH.
I am still concerned about the small size.
Dont want it to look silly, with a small station representing GCT next to large trains.
This should be a good seller and hopefully will bring about a series of stations that are affordable to the average person.
Alan
The picture in the LRRC email and in the Lionel catalog is wrong. It shows the Trainworx full size station. The Lionel station is MUCH LESS DETAILED. I spoke to the designer and he said he told Lionel about it but they published the wrong pciture anyway. Maybe someone can sneak a pic of it at Yrok where it is on display.
I haven't decied yet but I may contact Lionel and ask for my money back.
I agree, that is a deal breaker.
It also does not speak well for Lionel ethics.

Uh ohhhh.....I may be right behind you making that call....

Just to be clear. Both stations are made by TW Trainworx. This is I believe is just a simple mistake. Nevertheless I order based on a incorrect picture and I'm not happy. This isn't a minor change in the specs of a product. It's the wrong product all together!
Paging Train Dame...Can we get a clarification on the issue raised above about the picture in the catalog not being accurate?
Thanks!
I should not have ordered it, being unemployed and all...
So I cancelled my pre-order for that reason and the fact its too small for O gauge and not detailed enough for the price. Also, Lionel knowingly posting the picture of the $2K version ****ed me off as deception.
