My 1 year old granddaughter will sit and watch my layout for quite a long time and really likes to push the button for the whistling station. Well I got thinking, why not a train just for her. I had some old beat up 6" cars and a cheap engine so out came the spray paint. She loves it.

That is a wonderful redecorating and repurposing of a Marx consist. Those colors really pop out and I think it's a inspired idea that she should have her own special train to run especially made by her grandpa, just for her.

Very neat! I'm sure your granddaughter will enjoy her train for years to come. I did a similar thing for a young friend of the family - and coincidentally, with a 591 Marx loco, although it is a windup. Every time he went back to "look" at the windup train layout, he would want to do more than look. I took a rusty 591 and stripped it down, then let him shoot it flat black with a rattle can (hard to mess up flat black). I put a late model riser gear windup motor in it for him. Now he can run it, crash it, he even wrote his name on the side of the boiler - it's his to use as he wishes. It worked out great; now when he comes over, he winds up his locomotive and we have train races! I should show him your pictures and see if he would like to repaint his train... hee, hee!

That is really cute! Are the decorations stick-ons? They look like they are part of the finish.

Yes they are stickers. I first took the cars apart then stripped the paint off, repainted with Valspar enamel spray paint, let day 7 to 10 days then put on the stickers and top coated with Valspar clear satin sealer.
