My grandfather Patrick Waldron was an engineer for the NYC retiring when I was about 2 yrs old in 1957. I found a copy of his letter of resignation effective March 1, 1957 and a photocopy of a picture of him in the cab of engine #809, not sure of when it was taken. I've attached the picture and a copy of the retirement letter. Can anyone help me find out more about the #809 and maybe something about Grandpa's career. I also found out that he listed his employment as a Railroad fireman on his army enlistment papersin 1917.
I appreciate any assistance.
I received an email from a member that the engine is actually #7809 a USRA 0-8-0 switch engine. Doing more research I found the 809 was scrapped in 1945 and looking at other pictures of Grandpa I'm certain the picture was taken close to retirement time.
Thanks for helping me out, now on to find more about the #7809!
