Yeah, can't wait either. I think the 2-8-0 consolidations have also come in.

I am hoping Lionel put the correct tender with the Southern 2-8-0.

I ordered the Southern, so I hope so. But, knowing how things go, I'm not getting my hopes up. I really don't care as long as it's a fun engine to run.

Excellent news!
I've been impatiently waiting since announced! Can't wait to see the videos.
Thanks for the update!
Does anyone know if they will have the correct tapered connecting rods this time? The first batch of Legacy models were really good, but I've seen the 844 in person, and the Lionel would be even better with the correct driving rod pattern.
That one is from 2008, Gary. The new ones item numbers are in the 80000 series.
I'm also looking forward to seeing how the new FEF-3's turn out, especially the 8444 version.
They are:
I have extras for sure of 6-82806
The 2-8-0 extras I have coming are:
Ours arrive on Monday.
If anyone gets the SP version of the 2-8-0 can someone post a video? Thinking about buying one. Thanks
I pre-ordered the 838 from Steve www.mrmuffinstrains.com
She should be in Monday!! Can't wait!

Don't think there where any external tooling changes made. Just updated electronics, whistle steam, and the track sensor.
Awesome they have arrived, not awesome I gotta pay for my FEF #8444...
I have the original 844 Legacy version Lionel did a few years ago, interesting to see the differences besides the whistle steam and sensor.
Jim
I would of bought one of these but the daylight and allegheny won.
Eric, I will hopefully be picking my FEF from Charlie early in the week. I had the first run Legacy 844 with modular boards and just know this will be a great locomotive. I am looking forward to you doing a review.
Jim, the first one was a good locomotive. I am a huge fan of the RCMC board system and whistle steam. I have two yellow aux tenders to go with my locomotive.

Hoping to see the review within a few months, most of the stuff I buy comes from others having one, running it and demonstrating sounds and the reviews, you doing that, it causes a hole in my pocket.
The model 844 will be hitting the rails before the REAL one. Interesting!

I got the SP version, had to for the tender. But sadly I won't be able to do anything with it until late July. But if someone hasn't posted a video by then, I'll do it.
My FEF #8444 is at Legacy Station and Brian is shipping it out tomorrow. Looks like a Monday arrival for me!
I'd love to see this new FEF in action.
I should have mine tomorrow, I will post a video as soon as i get it .

Same here!
Out of all the features the whistle smoke and Legacy sounds are most intriguing for me.

I have to say that this is great work! Is that a Williams engine you are modifying?
I have NO metalworking skills such as yours.
The first photo above looks like the last 3rd Rail issue of the FEF-3 but certain details indicate it isn't. Nonetheless it's not a bad representation of what the last issue Lionel models looked like and what we can expect from the new Lionel models in the pipeline.
It's possibly a small point but in addition to smoke and sound I wonder how the new models will render the operation of the Mars hazard or warning light. The last Lionel and 3rd Rail lights were simply LED blinkers and did not attempt to replicate the oscillation of the original.
My new FEF is on her way to my house. Should be here middle of next week, Thanks Joey and Nicholas Smith.

I can't wait to get the shipping notice!
Hancock52,
Yes, it's a Williams FEF-3 being converted to an early FEF-1 class. Been lots of fun building it. Next project will be a UP 4-10-2.
The black FEF-1s in the first two photos are 2R Overland Models-an early/late version. Outstanding models. I also have a Key version of the FEF which is also outstanding.
Lionel's FEF-3 is a nice model. Love the first Legacy release also.
Hello everyone
well here it is the new UP FEF and in my opinion it's amazing. Once again great work by Lionel. Sounds to me like Rich Melvins voice on the crew talk !!!!!!!
Hope you all enjoy the pictures and videos. If you have any questions I will be glad to answer them.
Thanks , Alex
Awesome engine Alex!
Great video and pics, Alex. Layout looks like it's coming along great too. Thanks for posting!

Was there a option for no white wall tires ?
Just wondering .. Boy it sounds just like the vision line challenger to me ..

Might need to double-check the catalog... but I think #8444 was the model w/whitewall tires. Not all models had the whitewalls as I recall.

Correct. Except, the UP uses/used "bright aluminum" for the lettering, walkway edges, journal box covers, and tires. Hope they are NOT "white".

It's cool was just wondering with the visionline Bigboy and challenger I decided to pass on this .. They Barly get ran.
Nice Alex! I prefer that "newer" legacy UP whistle tone much more than the first run of the UP 844.
The tone on the original IMO is too flat sounding, like Lionel recorded the whistle when it was frozen or something.
Looks like this got the darkened rods too.
Alex, does #8444 come with the magnetic "Lionel Lines" tender plate for excursion service? Or was that just for #844 on the facing page in the catalog? It wasn't real clear whether the badge applied to both locos or just #844.

That "Lionel Lines" sign was applied ONLY to 844 on the one way excursion back to Cheyenne, after the Frontier Days Train operation, back in July 2010.
All the letters edging and tires look to me like they are aluminum color
David , I'll have to check the box if it came with the Magnetic plate

If it doesn't come with #8444, then I wonder if Lionel has the plate as a separate-sale part? Might want one even if it's not prototypically correct for #8444.
