I received my bulb replacements from Lionel a few days ago. This afternoon I replaced the bulb, a little tricky, but it is done. However I still have a bulb that doesn't light! I tested the old bulb with my continuity tester and the bulb was OK after all. The rear tender headlight lights when the engine is backing up, but the front headlight is still out when running in forward. Please be aware that in the last postings, the correct bulb is a grain of wheat bulb and not LEDs. I hope someone will have some ideas. Thanks!!

Yes, you can reprogram your original number or give it a different number, then code 7 then 4 (74)This will reset the engine. Sometimes a spark going through switches or such will 'decode' a function like headlights or the smoke unit and this will enable it again. If you are unfamiliar with this, your instruction book will tell you how to do this. I assume you have a cab 1 or 2.

Well, I reprogramed the engine by putting it in program, then I powered up, then put in the engine number and pushed set, then I put in 7,4 and powered down, waited, put switch in run, powered up, and still no headlight.

AS far as I know, all the wires were OK, and as for swapping out the R2LC, I don't know what that is exactly, as I do not have much experience with these new modern engines and their circuit boards etc. And like I mentioned the old bulb tested out OK with my continuity tester. Sounds like I am in trouble.

I'm way" late to the party" on this, but did you try the AUX2 button to see if you inadvertently turned it off?

I have one of the TMCC 0-8-0s and the headlight when turned off will not come back on unless the AUX2 button is pressed.

Even after I power down and repower, the headlight will not come back on until AUX2 is pressed.

BINGO!  I powered up, and then hit AUX2 and on went the headlight. Now however, the headlight does not go out, when you change direction and move backwards. Actually my Lionel DM&IR 2-8-2 does the same thing after it came back from Lionel. Is there a way to fix this? Also, is this how you turn off the headlights on TMCC engines...by pushing the AUX2 button? I wasn't aware of any of this, I guess I should re-read the manuals. Thanks for all your help tonight, at least I have an operating headlight, and learned how to replace the bulb.

As you will note I tried the AUX2 button and have a working  front headlight again.....thanks.

Thanks for the picture of the item in question. I learned something new again tonight, but I will wait a bit before I tear into the engine again. But I am glad I learned how to do some things tonight, as I am not Mr. Wizard.  :-)
