A railfan friend of mine sent me these pics. One of his friends took all of these photos in the 1950's. They photographer is Alan K. Weeks. Some great color pics! Enjoy! Matt

Very nice photos.. but, the gem, for me, is the first one. That's 4018, which is part of our railroad museum, formerly at Fair Park in Dallas, now in Frisco. Nice to see it in action - thanks!!
Beautiful Pictures... How often do you see such great color photography for 1950's images.
The picture below appears to be a GE Gas Turbine. Is that correct. Does anyone model this?

UP veranda is one if my favorite locomotives, immense and impressive. Lionel and MTH
makes models of these & they were certainly loud.

Thanks Matt, There is a thread currently running about the Veranda and it simply didn't click when I was reading this post. They are BIG - O72 curves and I do not have O72, but I am looking at some space to remodel and maybe... This engine is an eye catcher and so unusual. I've definitely got a taste for this one????
Once again thanks for posting these beautiful photos. It was also fun looking at the right of way and seeing all the "real life" detail of that period.
It looks like pretty light rail to hold those big boys. Does anyone recall the weight of the rail back then on the main line?

Thanks. It works on my PC with MS Explorer, when I was away it would not work with my Ipad. There are many interesting photos " the twilight years for many of these engines and railroads".
The Veranda Turbine is doing well in all scales right now. There's the Athearn and MTH (old Lionel ) in HO scale, and the new MTH O gauge version. Lionel also made this loco in O gauge some years back as well. Have fun! .....at least you guys with large radii !
Thanks for posting.
Along side of the PRR, the UP has always been my second favorite!
