Can anyone recommend a paint that's a good match for a Lionel 259E in Gunmetal? The one I just bought has some rust spots on the cylinders that need to be touched up. Thanks.

I started a list of commercial available paints that "ALMOST match Lionel's prewar colors.
For you situation you would need the exact color. I would email Olen's or Hennings train's on what your needs are. I know they sell it in spray can and I think bottles too.
Attached is my list of commercial available paints, these would be good on complete repaints and not touch ups. Just remember that your old engine may be a bit different in color due to age and light and exact matching may be hard. It also may be wise to dissemble the part and respray it separately as if done with a brush you may see the brush marks especially with gun metal.
Yes, thanks for the spreadsheet. The RustOleum metallic gray was just what I needed!
Glad it worked out for you and thank you to all of the people who helped with this list. This is what this forum is about.
If you have a NAPA around try Duplicolor Cast Iron Coat, I recommended it on the same thread. I never got to try it on my 259 but it looks a pretty good match. It sprays on pretty evenly as well.
Hi Brian, I did list your information on the list. I also attached the list again if anyone else needs it.
If anyone else has a color to add they can email me or put it down as a reply.

Wal-Mart carries it, too, at least here in central Pennsylvania. I saw it on the shelves while I was buying the Rust-Oleum the other day.
