Dont know about the larger shows out of New York State,

But I take my board to local shows north of Syracuse, NY

and then as a finally, I go to the Big Syracuse show in November

(always the 1rst weekend). If dealers up here are ever caught

stealing or otherwise, they are simply "let go" or "blackballed"

and we dont see them at our shows again.

So by being thieves, they alienate themselves.

We had a garage sale some years ago, and some professional thieves came around in a group.  They divided us up, asking questions about stuff we had for sale, while another faction from the group cleaned us out of some nice things we were trying to sell, including some train stuff and other collectibles.

Sorry to say,  but there are some real low-lifes out there.

Have things taken....yes. I moved and the "movers" stole several large boxes of engines and other things. They were not professional movers, friends of friends kind of thing. I did not realize it for years so no chance of checking pawn shops or meets.

I have replaced a few over the years but nothing like having the original ones that my kids and I played with for hundreds of hours.

Also lost a bunch of stuff to flooding once. Oh well, just the way life goes sometimes.

Allan, I didn't go into great detail in my reply but there is more of course.  The man did not live in the house.  He used it to store things.  He got most of the stored items out but not the trains.  The buyer said no problem when he was asked if the trains could be gotten out over time.  Not months and months but a week or two.  That is when things went south and my acquaintance found the locks changed etc.  TMI, I know but all kinds of things happen , some of them strange and unsavory.

When I go to a train show to sell, I take my wife or another train buddy, never go by myself and this way things don't go missing.

I like to do some looking around and see if I might buy something, so that is the second reason for not going by myself. Also how can you test an engine for somebody?

At a TCA meet in Stuart FL one year a guy a few tables away from me claimed that somebody stole some of his H.O. engines. I didn't see anybody at his table when he was gone for a few minutes, but I was busy.

This happens all the time.  Closing often takes place before the seller moves out.  Possession after closing is part of the contract and rent is escrowed.

perhaps you could enlighten us what really happened-forum members would like to know.-jim

Actually, to me at least, it sounds like a personal matter, and not the kind of thing that needs to be aired on the Forum.

MichRR714 is right, it is fairly common when buying a house, contingent on the sale of the current home for that to happen. It can be nearly impossible to have the sale closings of BOTH properties happen simultaneously, I know from experience.

Mike, I don't know if that was your situation, but I am Sorry to hear of your experience.

Mike I feel for ya.  Hopefully the appraisal will go through and the place I pay the mortgage on will sell.  I have not had access to it for over a year due to the ex-wife so I can only hope that some of my things have not gone missing.  I know I can't find my box of G scale track so I couldn't set that up this past Christmas.

we sure seem quick to judge without all the facts on here.
