Has anyone added marker/class lights to a steam loco? Where did you get them? I need help!

Precision Scale has these, but the catalog has drawings and not actual photos, and sometimes it's hard to know what you're getting.

For a couple of my RK steamers, I put 3mm LED's in those "nubs" and just projected them slightly so they were visible.

I have some brass locomotives that I'm still looking for proper class lights, but my first attempt ordering from Precision Scale was not successful, what I got won't really work.

Precision Scale offers quite a few Marker/Class lights. Some are cored for bulbs, some are not and use jewels. If you are looking for the class lamps on 833 pictured they are Pyle National with brackets. Precision Scale #PSH-40845.

Sounds like a job for a good 3D artist and a 3D printer.

I'm still trying to get good output from my el cheapo 3D Printer.

(I bought a beta Version to cut costs, learning curve is steep)

I can get small items, but nothing as big as I need for a couple projects.

I did manage to print a BTTF 2 Delorian close to O gauge size.

Once I determine just how big it is supposed to be I'll scale accordingly.

That is actually one of only 3 prints I consider successful and by far the largest.

It's about 3" long and has separate bumpers, electronics on hood, roof hook holder, ect.

However, I now have both a Railking and Premier Big Boy from MTH. Since I got the part list for the Scale one I'm thinking I'll try ordering the number boards the Imperial RK one is missing. This may not pan out as my Premier one is very old.

We have a saying, if you can buy it then buy it because you can't make it for less. Plus these are brass. How much would a metal capable 3D printer cost?

Pete, this is what I was hoping for right here.  A picture and part number.  I'd rather have a actual picture of one, but this is pretty good!

Yeah John I did about the same as you.  I drilled in from the side of some nubs to get the side view also.  It works ok but just isn't quite up to snuff for what I'd like.  I'm mainly working on a PS2 Y6b that I aged the life out of to make a "barely still running" looking steamer as seen below.  Its got the nubs I drilled but I'd like to go one step further and put class and markers on it.

Eh.... you can barely see them in this picture sorry.  But then that is exactly why I'm wanting to replace them now isn't it!

- Precision Scale is a good idea, but:

- DaBay had sellers offering parts; just start cruising for "class(ification) lights" (the correct name), or "marker lights" (what too many of us call them - markers are on the REAR of something, like a tender or caboose); some use the term "lamps".

I often just do a search (in title only) on the word "brass"; most details are done in brass,

and there are a bunch of hits which I enjoy perusing, anyway.

- Best recommendation: Lionel's Parts Department, online. These lights are available as separate pieces (I just found some for a scale Pacific, to confirm this). Search on 4-6-2, 4-6-4, 2-8-2 - you get the picture - and look at the scale locos. Just look around; great detail parts source, anyway. They may not fit your particular loco, natch, but the others won't either. That's what building is all about.

Don't get all caught up in prices and s/h; O-scale is expensive, and if you can't stand the heat...
