I picked up 3 tinplate passenger cars at York that have a decent repaint job on them but the color has a crappy looking green that has to go! Until now I wasn't sure what color I wanted to paint them in but i've always wanted a Polar express tinplate set and since i doubt we'll see one from the big guy's in the near future I'll have to do it myself. Anyone use any spray paint close to the PE colors?

Model Masters #1920 "Intermediate Blue" is a pretty close match for the blue. Not sure about what red would match.

This is a good start. Jim. Is the model masters paint in a spray can? Thanks guy's
It is available in a rattle can.

Digital Color Reflection Scope.
I have taken rolling stock & structures to Home Depot, they put the car under a color matching scope and they will be able to give you the colors that are used to make that Maroon & Light Blue on the Polar Express car. If there is a paint expert on duty he can tell you what rattle cans will come close. If you feel that he is wrong.
Try a automotive paint supply shop, and go through the same procedures as Home Depot. Automotive Paint cans will cost more than what is at Home Depot. Use lacquer paints only from an automotive store.
Last resort, break out your airbrush.
Good Luck

I'm trying to avoid the whole air brush and mixing ECT. They don't have to be dead accurate but close enough to represent the PE colors.
There are a few brands of spray paint that may have a wider variety of color that are not carried at Home Depot. Look for Design Master. This line is used for floral displays. The paint smells horrible while you are spraying in my opinion but the color selection is much bigger. Floral supply places and maybe art stores carry the line.
Another line to look for is Montana paints. These are made for the artist market and again have a much larger and more sophisticated variety of colors. When selecting from them a nice feature is that the color collar ring at the top of the can is actually sprayed on with the color in the can so it is exactly the color you are buying. Again good art stores and on line is your best bet on these. Good luck.
The closest match I can find for the PE blue is the Montana color RV 157 Thalassa Blue.
