Calling all you Rock Island aficionados (I admit, I couldn't spell this the first five times!!!  Had to Google it!!) out there.  Has anyone ever made F- units of these Rock Island engines in O scale?  I know there are E-8's out there.  But how about F units?  (I'm rewriting this to avoid any further confusion

Yes, there were Rock Island F units which wore this scheme:

I spent some time chasing them around the Chicago area in '78 but I don't have those slides scanned in. These aren't my pictures so I didn't post them directly.

In answer to the orginal poster's question, I don't believe an O scale F unit painted in this particular scheme has been released.

I remember comments made back when those came out that MTH had put the wrong sounds in those engines. So your passenger cars have been converted to haul freight, presumably?

I belonged to the Rock Island Technical Society for a number of years and their calendars were very good at displaying the various schemes.

Here's an all maroon passenger scheme as well. I've always thought that the Rock spent so much money on all their different paints, it's no wonder they went broke.

Rock Island E8A #654 and its accompanying E7B look very elegant in their all-maroon liveries as they board passengers at Minneapolis with the Twin Star Rocket on June 8, 1964.

3rd Rail is doing FP7s in Rock Island.  I don't remember the number, but the "Rock" had a decent sized roster of them.  The current proposal is to do the original as released scheme, but that could change based on what the market is asking for.  As with any Rock Island locomotive, after the initial painting, schemes were abundant and inconsistent.

As to the numerous paint schemes, it is often said that the Rock Island painted their locomotives based on whatever paint was available at the local hardware store.

I must admit that I've not seen photos of the freight units pulling passenger trains, but the Golden Rocket never hit the real rails either, so my operation is complete--the wrong engine pulling a train that didn't exist. For you Rock Island fans here's a photo of the Zephyr Rocket I took something like 60 years ago coming into St. Louis headed by the E-6 627. That loco had a hard life and was rebuilt after a major accident.
