I was looking for some options for new Lionel themed T shirts.  I came across Cafe Press.  They have some nice Lionel and train related stuff.  But in Googleing reviews on the company it seems like I would be taking a chance in ordering from them.  They are a big mail order house but maybe too big.  Has anyone ordered from them?

I get the impression that they have no stock on hand for many items ... and that causes the delay.

On many little charity, social group, etc's website, they list Cafe Press as a source for their personalized items. I think Cafe Press prints the shirts, coffee cups, etc as an order comes in for it.

But, a relatively big account like Lionel would probably have stock on the shelves ready for shipping (?)

You are correct.  They are an on-demand service, and unless they know in advance that they will be getting a lot of orders for an item, they only produce an item after it is ordered.  Delays can happen if they are busy fulfilling a big order or a lot of little orders.

You can even design and sell your own items (I think they police items for copyright infringement, so only original creations are allowed).  As a lark, I even set up my own shop (http://www.cafepress.com/highiron) to see if anyone buys stuff (no sales so far after 2-3 years, but I've been meaning to get a couple of my own creations for myself to judge the quality of the printing on a shirt - I've been happy with the books I've bought through them).  They can do books, coffee mugs, bumper stickers, light switch covers, and tons of other stuff.

CafePress is a good vendor.  They've been making T-shirts and hoodies for my web site for at least the last seven or eight years.

(I usually give a shirt or a hoodie to a grandkid or someone who does something for me.  No one's ever handed one back saying, "nah, that's junky".

Their customer service is excellent.  In the last two weeks, they gave me advice on how to modify my logo so it would print correctly on dark colored shirts.

Here's another example of a CafePress product.

These items use the logo from a military unit I was assigned to in Turkey in the early 80s.

One suggestion-- if you order a long or short sleeved t-shirt or a hoodie, you may want to increase the normal size by one if you like a looser fit.  I found the shirts tend to shrink about 1/2 a size after eight or ten laundry cycles.  The shirts last and last but, like I said, tend to shrink a bit at the beginning.
